Pride asks, “Where is the Inspection Department?”

GREAT BAY – The St. Maarten Pride Foundation has “strongly recommended” the Inspection Department in the Ministry of Public Housing, Physical Planning, Environment and Infrastructure immediately demolish structures near Karakter Beach Bar, Tango’s Beach Bar and near White Sands Beach Club. The foundation had complained about the structures near Karakter Beach Bar in April but no action has been taken even though the foundation was informed that a removal order was issued.

The “illegal construction” near Karakter Beach Bar and at Tango’s Beach Bar on the side nearest White Sands Beach Club has prompted the foundation to ask, “Where is the Inspection Department?” That question was stressed considering that the foundation was informed by the department that they are “capable of doing their job.”

“Pride Foundation is once again calling on the Inspection department to enforce the Building Ordinance, the Beach Policy and the Nature Ordinance. The Foundation strongly recommends that the structures at Karakter Beach Bar and these new ones at Tango’s Beach Bar in the vicinity of the White Sands Beach Club are immediately removed,” a press release from the foundation stated.

The foundation’s calls for demolition are based on violations of the Building Ordinance, the Beach Policy and the Nature Ordinance.
