Prep program participants receive their certificates

St. Maarten – The National Institute for Professional Advancement (Nipa) issued certificates on Friday to the participants in the prep program that was held last year from September until December. Education Minister Patricia Lourens was present at the event.

A registration drive in august of last year yielded 377 candidates from the program. The prep program is for youngsters in the 156-24 age category who did not finish secondary school and who are looking for a second chance t- get an education. The program focuses on job-oriented practical training and on opportunities for further studies at the ASCE/SBO school.

Of the 377 that registered, 91 students met the admission criteria and in the end 77 of them followed the prep program. Of this number, 60 participants completed the program and 58 were accepted into the Nipa.

The participants in the prep program took classes in hospitality, social skills,. career preparation, business English, practical training, computer training and physical education.
