Pre-judging and Junior Calypso/Road March set for Saturday

St. Maarten – When it comes to pageantry, contestants only get one chance to make a first impression, but for the teen and senior contestants that will be competing in the speech and culture wear this Saturday April 14, at Sonesta Great Bay Beach Hotel, there will be a second chance when they face off in the Festival Village on April 25th. The points gathered by the individual events will be added to the points awarded on the final night in the Festival Village. The contestants in the teen category are D’Shanay York, Erissa Cozier, Jermien Daal, Kendra Priest and Tivona Trotman.

For the cultural wear segment, the contestants will be expected to get as creative and original as possible. But for the speech segment, they will all have to get their faculties together when they speak on the topic, ‘How they intend to contribute to St Maarten’. The more general theme is: In my future.

Those in the senior category are Carlishia Phillipa, Glenicia Mitchell, Jeanneth Provacia, Khalela warno and Leysha de La Rosa. They will all be required to deliver a speech, to the theme, ‘I am the Prime Minister, hear me now.’ However, the winners in the respective categories will not know how they placed at the end of the night. They will have to wait until the night of the pageant.

The Junior Calypso competition and Road March competition is also scheduled to take place on the same day starting with the Calypso competition at 3:00 p.m. On this occasion, Denissia ‘Lil Blossom’ Martimbor, the reigning Jr. Calypso queen, and the Jr. Road March King Rickyshio Bertie will be putting their reputations on the line.

The other participants in the junior calypso contest are Rumari, ‘The Messenger’ Rogers, Nicholio Bertie, J’Onesia Martinbor, stage name, Sunshine,  Empress ‘Aquilla’, Carty and Marieshene ‘Singing D’ Doran. Those in the Road March competition are the ‘Messenger’, ‘Singing D’, Makeel ‘Mr Violenus’ Violenus and King Rickyshio.
