St. Maarten – Top Promotion Foundation hosts a guava berry and potato pudding contest Friday November 4, 2011 to mark the start of its 5th annual culinary event Fete de la Cuisine. The competition is being organized in cooperation with the Boardwalk Fest organizers.
“Everyone who is knowledgeable of our Christmas tradition of making guava berry and or potato pudding is invited to take part in this competition. Participation is free of charge. However there are certain conditions to enter this contest,” a release from the foundation stated.

People entering the guava berry contest should submit 2 liters of the drink in a clear bottle that has a label around its neck with the name, address and telephone number of the participant. No other labels should be on the bottle. All of the submissions will be kept by the foundation once the judging is over and will be used to provide samples to the public.
People who are entering the potato pudding contest should submit one entry in an aluminum foil dish with a minimum size of 34 cm x 24 cm that has a label attached showing their name, address and telephone number. The foundation also plans to keep all of these entries after judging to share out among visitors as samples.
Participants in both competitions have to register themselves by sending an e-mail to topprofoundation@yahoo.com or calling 587-2678. All entries will then have to be delivered to Pasangrahan Hotel in Front Street on November 3 between 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.

A panel of local culinary and cultural icons will judge the entries and the top three in each category will receive a label for their products during a prize giving in a tent across from the Holland House Hotel. The labels will be done in gold, silver and bronze. There will also be shopping vouchers for the top three. Each participant will also get a certificate.
“We invite everyone, especially our seniors, to join us in this tent to chat about the tradition of making guava berry and potato pudding and to taste the entries. Tasty St. Maarten foods will also be on sale in the tent. We also invite poets, rappers and calypsonions to give artistic renditions about guava berry and potato pudding. Let us together make this event a memorable one,” a release from the foundation stated.
