GREAT BAY- The detective department is calling on the public for information about an unusual crime in which a man was violently attacked and beaten by a group of young men. The victim is hospitalized in critical condition.
The incident occurred in the vicinity of the McDonald’s Drive Thru in Simpson Bay between the Sunday April 8 at midnight and 2:00 a.m. on Easter Monday.

In a press release, police spokesman Inspector Ricardo Henson said that, “On the same night there was a performance given by a band from the island of Dominica at the Soggy Dollar Bar, which is in the immediate vicinity of where this unfortunate incident took place. The victim, Marcus W., attended that concert with friends and played pool in the bar. When he left the Soggy Dollar in the direction of Mc Donald’s restaurant he was attacked and beaten with an object by three young men, approximately 18 years old. There are no clues which indicate the reason for this senseless criminal act.”

The investigation is still on-going and progressing slowly. The detective department is encouraging possible witnesses to contact the police station in Philipsburg at 542 22 22 ext. 126.
