Police introduce new system to catch robbers red-handed

AMSTERDAM – Dutch police will introduce a new protocol on September 1 for catching criminals red-handed. As soon as a robbery is reported, police will issue a ‘state of police alert’ SPA, and all available units will hasten to various strategic positions around the location of the robbery.
This so-called ‘three-ring system’ is designed to increase the chance of catching robbers. Trials in recent months in Amsterdam, Rotterdam and The Hague have already shown it works.
The coordinator in the incident room will play a key role in directing police units to their positions. At the moment, police units rush to the scene of a crime little effect.
The coordinator will identify likely escape routes and places frequented by criminals, where robbers may go.
Police in Amsterdam, Rotterdam and The Hague are already prepared for the new approach. Other police forces will follow suit in the near future.
