St. Maarten – Police arrested and detained two young men early Sunday morning after getting a call at 6:30 a.m. that shots were being fired near Margereth Bruce’s Drive in Middle Region. The person who called police said the gun man had brown complexion, was dressed in a red T-shirt and a jeans pant and drove off on black and white scooter after firing a shot gun for unknown reasons.

Police patrols caught up with the scooter near Basseterre drive. Two people were riding it and the driver refused to stop when instructed to by the police. The patrol officers accelerated and blocked the scooter driver’s path but that was not enough to stop him either. The young man sped up and unsuccessfully tried to maneuver past the officers. He failed in the attempt and collided with the front of the police car after losing control. Both young men fell to the ground and sustained minor injuries. After being treated by the paramedics they were taken to the St. Maarten Medical Center for further treatment.

Police immediately arrested and detained the duo after they were released from the hospital. During a body search police found a spent shot gun cartridge on one of the suspects. They are now on the hunt for the shotgun.
Police intend to continue the investigation as the duo is suspected of being involved in other criminal activities.
