Police Chief of the Dutch National Police Gerard Bouman visits St. Maarten police forcePOSTED: 07/23/15 10:58 PM
St. Maarten – Police Chief of the Dutch National Police Gerard Bouman will arrive on the island today for a one-day visit with the police force, his first one in history. Bouman will sit down in intense discussions with the management of the force to iron out several bottle necks.
Chief Commissioner Peter de Witte told this newspaper yesterday that Bouman will meet formally with the management team. “We will show him the difference between a big police force and a smaller one and the progress the force has made since 2010 when the force was established.”
Bouman, who will also travel to Curacao, Saba, Statia and Bonaire, is the top manager of the new police organization in the Netherlands.
De Witte plans to also update him about the many projects the police force is working on. Bouman will visit the recently inaugurated Central Dispatch communications unit. De Witte will discuss the enhancement of cooperation between the Netherlands and St. Maarten.
Minister of Justice Dennis Richardson said recently at a press conference with Defense Minister Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert that cooperation between the countries within the Kingdom continues to get stronger. St. Maarten will continue to get more assistance to strengthen the police force. Bouman’s working visit will end tomorrow afternoon.
