Police arrest three in smuggling ring

St. Maarten – Police say the arrest of three men on October 14 is the latest proof that newly opened Back Office at the Princess Juliana Airport is a success. The three, all from Haiti, were arrested because one of the men – B.F. – was caught attempting to smuggle a 12 year old girl and 10 year old boy into the country as his children using false documents.
Immigration officers considered the man’s frequent flights to Haiti suspicious and when he returned to the island with the two children, they decided to question him in the presence of the Acting Prosecutor. The man said the children were his, but this turned out not to be true and police were also able to pick the fathers of both children, who were waiting for them at the airport.
The children were placed in their family’s custody pending repatriation to Haiti.
