Police arrest student for stabbing two others

POSTED: 02/7/12 4:09 PM

St. Maarten – The Detective Department is investigating an early morning stabbing near the Sundial School. Two students – J.H. and S.E. – were taken to hospital and the suspect – K.R. – was arrested by the police.

Police were called to the scene at 6:45 a.m. When they arrived the bus driver told them about the incident and that several wounded students that were still on the bus. H. was found with a wound to his left hand and a wound just below his neck, from which he was bleeding profusely. E. was stabbed between the fingers of her left hand.

Both students were taken to the St. Maarten Medical Center. H. remained in the hospital, in “quite serious” condition, but E. went home after being treated.

Fear of an incident like Tuesday’s stabbing led the School Bus Inspection Section to issue a statement on January 19 urging parents to “address…behavior before someone gets hurt.” The call was based on complaints the department receives from drivers.

“Students who behave in a disruptive manner on the school bus are creating a dangerous situation which puts the other children and motorists in danger thereby creating a safety hazard. The bus driver must focus his or her attention on the road and stay on schedule. Students need to act responsibly and parents need to address this matter especially those who use the school bus,” the January 19 release stated.
