Burnt body not yet identified

GREAT BAY, St. Maarten – The police arrested and detained R.R. at 11:00 p.m. on Tuesday night in Middle Region for the murder of his 13 year old daughter T.R. Police have held the man because they believe that burn marks on his body are linked to a burnt body they found in a deep ravine on Pumpkin Road in South Reward on Tuesday night.

According to the police report officers were called to South Reward at 8:20 p.m. A team of officers from the Forensic Department and from the Fire Department went over the area around the body and then worked together to remove the body from the ravine. While they worked police officers at the Philipsburg police station were interviewing R.R. and E.J. about their missing daughter. The officer in charge took note that R had severe burns on several parts of his body and informed the crime investigators of this when they returned. This led to an order for patrols to locate and apprehend him.

The analysis of the remains has not been concluded. So far police have only ascertained that the body is that of it was a young female. Their investigation into the identity is part of the autopsy that is being carried out.
“The investigation is still in its preliminary stage. The Police Department is asking anyone who may have any information that could help in this investigation to contact the police department,” Police Spokesman Ricardo Henson stated in a press release.
Prime Minister Sarah Wescot-Williams and Minister of Tourism, Economic Affairs, Transport and Telecommunications Franklin Meyers, like many others, have already concluded that the burnt body is that of the 13 year old. Their condolences to the family and friends were delivered at Wednesday’s Council of Ministers press briefing.
