St. Maarten – The police announced Tuesday they’ll be closing Front Street to vehicular traffic at midday on Friday. The closure is connected to set up for the Heineken Regatta Party that will take place there on Friday evening. The only exception to the rule is residents of Front Street.
In a notice the police also announced that public parking will be available on the sandy area of the Ring Road and at the parking lot next to the new Government Administration Building on Pond Island.
On Sunday, when the Regatta party is held at Kimsha Beach, people are advised to park at the Port de Plaisance and use a water taxi service that will drop them off at the St. Maarten Yacht Club. A roundtrip with the service costs four dollars per person and the boats will run from 4:00 p.m. to 3:00 a.m. There will also be additional paid parking between Royal Palm and the shopping center that houses Natures Discount and Levis. The money raised from this parking area will go to the Elektralytes Foundation.
“The Police Department will also barricade the sides of Billy Folly Rd leading up to Pelican, to avoid miscellaneous cars parking and blocking traffic. Extra officers and a tow truck will be on duty to ensure traffic flows consistently to benefit Pelican residents, emergency access, and traffic leading to the airport,” police spokesman Ricardo Henson wrote in a statement.

Health Inspections
Henson also announced that the police will be working with Sheriff Security to ensure only pre-approved vendors holding the proper health department certificates are selling food and drinks on the Boardwalk and that no glass bottles are present on the Boardwalk as a public safety measure.

Bridge openings
There will also be additional openings of the John Sainsbourough Lejuez bridge. On Thursday it will open on the 3:00 p.m. for inbound boats. On Friday the bridge will open at 8:00 a.m. for outbound boats and 3:00 p.m. for inbound. On Saturday it will be 8:00 a.m. for outbound and 3:00 p.m. for inbound. On Saturday there will be one additional opening at 8:00 a.m. for outbound and two for inbound – 1:30 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.
