St. Maarten – The TelEm Group of Companies joined in with the Princess Juliana International Airport in supporting the initiative by Prime Minister Sarah Wescot-Williams in sponsoring the International Women’s Day commemorative program set for this weekend.

The main event for the weekend of activities will be a very special guest lecture by renowned nutritionist and women’s health expert Dr. Rovenia M. Brock. Dr. Brock will be speaking on women’s health issues at Sonesta Maho on the evening of March 8. During the elegant and informative evening there will also be various poetry, dance and music pieces celebrating women.

The activities will start tomorrow with a special U 2 Can Move zumba edition to be held at the rear parking lot of the Government Administration Building. On Friday at noon there will be a special Church Service in honor of International Women’s Day at the St. Martin of Tours Catholic Church on Front Street. That same evening will feature the main event at Maho with Dr. Brock and on Saturday the community is encouraged to join in with the Prime Minister and Dr. Brock in continuing the momentum with a special health walk starting at 6 a.m. at the Government Administration Building. The last event will be on Sunday at 8.30 a.m. at the Good News Baptist Church where all are encouraged to celebrate the past, present and future of the Women of St. Maarten Society.

“One of the old traditional names for St. Maarten is Oualichi, land of strong women and indeed this is a land of strong women. I encourage the community to come out to all of these free and very special events to hear lectures by a world famous and leading women’s nutritionist and to get information on how to live a healthy lifestyle, to exercise, to worship and to celebrate the mothers, grandmothers, daughters, nieces and in fact all women in our society,” commented the prime minister.

There will also be a special luncheon during which the prime minister will be recognizing women within the community who have greatly contributed to the development of St. Maarten. “I would not like to give away any of the names yet as it is a surprise, but we will be recognizing a number of St. Maarten women for their contribution over the years.
