St. Maarten – Prime Minister Sarah Wescot-Williams congratulated American President Barack Obama on his inauguration for a second term yesterday.
“I would like to extend Congratulations to President Barack Obama on his second inauguration as president of the United States of America. Congratulations to all Americans, residing here, in the U.S. and all over the world. The government of St. Maarten looks forward to a continued relationship with the United States and its agencies. This will be done, for example, through the different Caribbean platforms where as a Caribbean nation we will let our voice be heard. Since 10-10-10 there are more opportunities for doing this; we focus on these relationships from the premise of our national responsibilities,” the Prime Minister stated in a press release issued yesterday.
Wescot-Williams further explained that there are already discussions underway about St. Maarten’s participation in the Caribbean basin projects and the collaboration between the country’s national departments and those of the United States. The trade program known as the Caribbean basin initiative is a vital element in America’s economic relations with its neighbors in Central America and the Caribbean. The program facilitates the economic development and export diversification of Caribbean economies.
