PM Wescot-Williams addresses grandparents and their offspring.

St. Maarten – Prime Minister Sarah Wescot-Williams attended the Home Away From Home Foundation’s Grandparents Day Celebration on Sunday – an event to recognize the importance and the appreciation of grandparents to the community.
The prime minister commended the foundation for organizing the event. “This celebration has been observed for many years and has been declared by the United Nations as official Grandparents Day since 1968. It is usually held on the first Sunday after Labor Day in September so St. Maarten is celebrating this special day along with several other countries that use this day to celebrate the very special people our grandparents are.”
“The most important part is that we recognize our grandparents, grandchildren and children and what they should mean and can mean to one another. So to see how well the turnout is tonight as well as the numerous youngsters that are here I think is very commendable. Recognizing how much our elderly grandparents and others can share with St. Maarten through their children and grandchildren we need to cherish them, respect them and hold them dear,” Wescot-Williams said.
