PM and university discuss training for civil servants

St. Maarten –Prime Minister Sarah Wescot-Williams met with representatives of the University of St. Maarten (USM) to discuss further training and capacity building of government employees. The Prime Minister met with USM President Annelies van den Assem, Valerie Giterson-Pantophlet, President of the Board and Acting Dean Glen Yeung and Project Leader Marjan de Visser.

The Prime Minister stressed that the government of St. Maarten is focusing strongly on the strengthening of the capacity and professionalism of civil servants through offering educational and training incentives. “The Government has placed an emphasis on capacity building within the civil service and has initiated several projects to allow civil servants to acquire knowledge and skills required to function optimally in the new government structure. These projects constitute the program ‘Institutionele Versterking Bestuurskracht’, executed in cooperation between the Netherlands and St. Maarten, with funds managed by USONA,” the Prime Minister stated. The original objective of the project is to increase the knowledge, experience and skills of public servants. Through job-specific training, general training and exchange programs.
