GREAT BAY- The Leeward Islands one day tournament sponsored by Nagico Insurances is set to make a grand return to the Caribe Ballpark after a one year absence and already the local selectors have called up 26 players for trials.

This new development will come as good news for cricket lovers on the island because last year, St Kitts became the first country to host the preliminary matches as well as the finals in the history of the tournament which is known to attract hundreds of spectators.

The tournament which is scheduled to start on October 14 and conclude on the 21st will involve seven teams which have been divided into two zones. In zone A is Antigua, the defending champions, St Kitts and Montserrat. In zone B, the teams are Nevis, Anguilla, the Combined Virgin Islands and St Maarten and those matches will be played simultaneously in Anguilla and right here on St Maarten.

Romain Doodnauth and Colin Hamer have been selected to spearhead two teams for the two trial matches starting with a T/20 game on Saturday and a 50 over game on Sunday. It is expected that the final 14 will be selected based on their performances in those trial matches, however, past performances may also come in for consideration.

Those on the Doodnauth selection are Shem Pascal, Sherwin Peters, Sheldon Le Blanc, Akeem Charles, Mohit Hingorani, Kenroy David, Rasheed Pirkhan, Daniel Doram, Lerry Baptist, Randy Christopher, Mrinal Wadhwa and Steven Evans.

On the Hamer team are Shaquille Martina, Gregorio Ritchie, Anil Persaud, Moreland Le Blanc, Damion Williams, Damian Beckford, Daryl Doram, Joel Brown, Jean Rene Belizar, Romel Haynes, Marlon Brutus and Kayode Pantophlet. All players are asked to show up for games with blue pants and white shirts.
