Philips visits Trinidad and Barbados

St. Maarten – The Secretary General of the Bureau Ombudsman St Maarten, Patricia Philips returned from a four-day exchange visit to Trinidad and Barbados on March 30. During the trip she met the Ombudsman of Trinidad Lynette Stephenson and the Ombudsman of Barbados Valton Bend, who is the current President of the Caribbean Ombudsman Association (Caroa).
The main issues discussed during the exchange visits best practices, the complaint registration systems, and organization of the Caroa conference scheduled to take place on St. Maarten in May 2013. St. Maarten opted to host the meeting at the last major conference. Parties also discussed preparing investigative reports, the components of investigative reports, dealing with non-compliance of departments and public awareness.
Philips also paid a courtesy visit to President of the Constitutional Court of St. Maarten Jacob “Bob” Wit. She and Stephenson were given a tour of the Caribbean Court of Justice during the visit.
