Pension fund distributed Apna specifications

St. Maarten –APS, the general pension fund administrator, has enlisted the personnel departments of the various employers of APS participants in distributing the final pension specification from the Antillean pension fund Apna. This specification provides amongst others an overview of the accrued pension through October 9, 2010. The specifications were distributed to inform participants about the way they were registered at Apna.

APS asked participants to report discrepancies with their pension specifications, so that the general pension fund could work with them, in order to resolve their concerns.

There are four important points to look at as these influence the accrued pension directly: the participant’s date of birth, the registration date in the fund (datum toetreding), whether the participant “bought back” additional years (inkoop) and the salary based on which the accrued pension is calculated.

APS has already been getting some feedback and questions from participants.

“It is important to realize that this specification is per October 9, 2010,” APS stated in a press release. “Civil servants who started working in 2011 would not receive specifications at this time. Participants should also realize that the specification mentions the salary that was known to Apna per October 9, 2010. A participant may have since had a salary change which would not be reflected in the specification.”

APS further noticed that it did not receive specifications for many participants who were employed at a federal level, such as those employed by police, immigration and Coast Guard organizations. These participants are asked not to be concerned that they do not have a pension. It is more likely that they have been incorrectly allocated to either Algemeen Pensioenfonds Curaçao (APC) or Pensioenfonds Caribisch Nederland (PCN).

At present, APS is nearing completion of the process to ensure that everyone who should be registered is indeed registered. Those who were expecting to receive a specification but did not get it should contact APS.

Those who have discovered discrepancies in their specifications have to submit documentation substantiating the required change. APS will not be able to properly look into cases if these documents are not forthcoming.

Those who have not received a specification, but know their Apna registration number (stamnummer) can present it with their personal details, to APS.
