St. Maarten – The American University of the Caribbean hosts a commencement ceremony on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. in the Maho Room of the Sonesta Maho Beach Resort and Casino. Since 1978, AUC has provided students with quality medical education and has more than 4,000 graduates who are licensed and practicing medicine throughout the world.
The school’s communications manager, Nicole Pride said that, “About 125 graduates are expected to attend and we are delighted that Dr. Pedro Greer, a celebrated gastroenterologist, professor, author, activist and 2009 recipient of the US Presidential Medal of Freedom will give the keynote address. Greer has been a longtime champion for South Florida’s homeless and underprivileged by coordinating and providing medical care. His advocacy work dates back 30 years.” Remarks will also be given by president of DeVry Medical International, Dr. Andrew Jeon and Executive Dean and Chief Academic officer at AUC, Bruce Kaplan, DO.
AUC is accredited by the Accreditation Commission on Colleges of Medicine (ACCM). Its students are eligible to sit for the USMLE, obtain U.S. Federal Financial Aid if qualified, become active members of the American Medical Student Association (AMSA) and, upon graduation, obtain residency and licensure throughout the United States. AUC’s curriculum is the U.S. medical school model, with two years of medical sciences taught at the St. Maarten campus, followed by two years of clinical sciences taught at affiliated hospitals in the United States and England.
