No trace of Manoël Maragnes

MARIGOT – The parents of disappeared student Manoel Maragnes are on the island to assist actively in the search for their son. Maragnes arrived from Guadeloupe on the French side of the island on December 10 to promote his on-line company.

“He was supposed to join us on December 13 in Guadeloupe to spend the holidays with his family,” his parents Marie-Lyne and Emmanuel Maragnes said in a statement. “We had him on the phone in the evening and we were waiting for him at the airport. He did not arrive and he did not call us again and that put us immediately on alert.”

The parents said that Manoël is independent and responsible, and very close to them and to his young sister. “He keeps us informed daily about what he is doing, his problems, and his projects, in particular when he is abroad. He has missed a plane before but he always called us.”

The parents traveled already the next morning to Saint Martin. “His rental car has been found back damaged together with all his personal effects like his ID and his debit card but without a trace of him. The police have taken on the case and we are looking to gather all information that could help us to find him.”

Mary-Lyne and Emmanuel Maragnes further stated that they find the situation incomprehensible. “Manoël is a student in the last year of his international business study. He has to present his business plan in January. It is about the creation of his company for the on-line sales of swimwear. He is a perfectionist who is paying attention to all the details in setting up his professional website. He stopped in Saint Martin to promote his business.”

The parents say that Manoël is a calm and responsible perfectionist who gives everything in whatever he undertakes. “He truly devoted himself to his professional project. He even told us that he had put his personal life on hold to devote himself entirely to this project. He is very close with his sister, we are all very close and we share everything.”

Manoël’s disappearance has taken its toll on the parents. “Today our hearts have crumbled, but we have not lost hope. We cannot imagine that we will be unable to find him back. Our son cannot just fade away like this. We have multiplied the distribution of leaflets to collect all information that could help us to find him back. Wherever he is, he needs us. We cannot stay like this without answers.”
