St. Maarten – Member of Parliament George Pantophlet has posed five questions to Finance Minister Hiro Shigemoto on the status of the budget for the corporate governance council. The new questions are based on Shigemoto’s statement that government has not yet approved the corporate governance council’s budget because they are outstanding queries on certain information.
Pantophlet wants the minister to state who was queried and when, whether the queries were made verbally or in writing and who any verbal queries were made to. The opposition MP has also asked to be provided with government’s written queries or to have an explanation why such cannot be provided.
Pantophlet also has questions on the status of a new national decree establishing the corporate governance council that must be published by the government. This is based on a statement that Prime Minister Sarah Wescot-Williams made in December in which she states that the new decree will be completed shortly.
“This statement was made almost two months ago. My question to the Prime Minister is what is happening with the new national decree? Because shortly cannot mean 2 months and counting,” Pantophlet said.
