St. Maarten – Caribbean Journal has named Orient Bay the “sexiest beach in the Caribbean,” before Seven Mile Beach in Negril, Jamaica.White Bay in Jost van Dyke in the British Virgin Islands is third, before Juanillo Beach in Cap Cana in the Dominican Republic. Cancun in Mexico rounds out the top five.
The online journal describes Orient Beach as “the Caribbean’s equivalent of Ibiza,” and furthermore notes that “here there is beach bar after beach bar, party after party, all on a wide white-sand beach.” Apparently, the journal has an issue with nudist resorts, given its snide remark “Never mind that the latter portion of the resort is au naturel.” All in all, the journal concludes, “there is just an overaching party atmosphere.”
The list names Baie Longue on the French side as the eleventh sexiest beach, but it contains no beaches on the Dutch side of the island. Within the top ten are St. Jean Beach (St. Barths) and Hadicurari Beach (Aruba). Mandaus Bay in Anguilla is listed as number twelve.
Caribbean Journal also posted a ranking of the thirty best resorts in the region. Here, La Samanna in the Lowlands is ranked number five and as such, it carries the day for the whole island, because there are no other resorts mentioned on either side of the border.
The journal describes the luxury resort as “a grand hotel in the great French tradition. Perched above the lovely Long Bay beach (Baie Longue – ed.), the 81-room La Samanna is equally renowned for the cuisine at its Trellis restaurant, which is no small feat given that it is located in the Caribbean’s culinary capital.
The Four Seasons Resort in Nevis tops the ranking. Further down the list are Le Sereno (17, St. Barths), Viceroy (20, Anguilla), Auberge Resort Malliouhana (24, Anguilla) and Eden Rock (25, St. Barths).
