Oranje School family fun-day enjoys impressive turnoutPOSTED: 03/2/15 10:01 PM
St. Maarten —An impressive turnout was witnessed at the Oranje School’s fun day at the Emilio Wilson Estate on Saturday, with kids having fun on bouncy castles, enjoying water slides, riding bikes etc, all under the watchful eyes of parents and teachers.
The fund raising committee of the school hosted the activity in an attempt to generate enough funds that would cover not one specific project or need of the school, but to be able to meet needs as they arise. A representative of the school explained that the committee opted for the fun day as the best option as opposed to having smaller activities like bake sales throughout the school year to raise funds every time an urgent need arises.
Although the kids were contributing to this worthy cause, they seemed oblivious of this as they were observed frolicking in the inflatable pool at the bottom of the water slide, running around through the park, enjoying cotton candy and pizzas and swings.
One of the teachers noted that it was heartening to see the families turn out and have fun together. The organizing committee is hoping to host another fun-day later in the year where families will again have the opportunity to spend time together having fun in a safe environment. The efforts made by the school and in particular the fund raising committee was– to borrow the word of one child as he came down the waterslide on Saturday— “awesome.”
