St. Maarten – Notaries from Curacao, Aruba, Bonaire, St. Maarten, Saba and St. Eustatius got a briefing on several key changes to the Civil Code from the author Professor Jan de Boer last Saturday. The briefing was part of an assembly meeting at the Avila Beach Hotel in Curacao that was hosted by the Antillean & Aruban Notary Association.

Some of the laws that the professor gave details on are the law on inheritance and legacies, the law on joint custody of minors, the law on trust companies and amendments to the marital patrimonial law.

“We can look back on a very fruitful day and in this context I cannot emphasize enough the significance and the incalculable value of Professor De Boer as the driving force behind the introduction of the New Civil Code on the islands that formerly constituted The Netherlands Antilles and also on Aruba. All these islands owe him a debt for this,” President of the Antillean & Aruban Notary Association Henry Parisius stated in a release.
