New problems for St. Maarten Utilities Company Gebe

POSTED: 10/6/15 9:46 PM

St. Maarten – Shortly before 2 p.m. yesterday utilities company Gebe sent out a press release announcing that one of its production units at the Cay Bay power plant was down. This forced the company to schedule a new series of power cuts, each lasting for about one and a half hour.

From 1.30 p.m. to 3 p.m. the lights went out at Port de Plaisance and a part of Union Road. From 2.15 to 3.45 p.m. power went off in Saunders, Cay Hill, A.J.C. Brouwers Road and part of L.B. Scott Road. From 3.45 to 5.15 p.m. it was the turn for Cole Bay and Almond Grove and from 5.15 to 6.45 p.m. Gebe cut the power on Airport Road.

Technicians at the power plant were working to resolve the technical issues with the generator. Gebe said that it had attempted “to limit load shedding in the various districts to a minimum.”
