Inspectors examine new station

St. Maarten – Delta Robertos Gas Station in Dutch Quarter is on course to be the first gasoline station on the island that allows drivers to pay by swiping their bankcards at the pump when it begins operation at 7:00 a.m. on Saturday. The new station falls between the Gess station in French Quarter and the Sol Station in Madame Estate and also includes a convenience store that will close at 10:00 p.m.
Being able to swipe with the bank cards will not be available on day one because the technology will not be fully integrated as yet. For the time being, people will have to pull up to the pumps and have an attendant pump their fuel for them. After that they’ll have to pay at a window and then pump their fuel themselves.
A team of inspectors from the Ministry of Tourism, Economic Affairs, Transportation and Telecommunication inspected the station on Tuesday. The impromptu visit was led by the Department Head Shervin Frederick and allowed the inspectors to carry out “routine checks.”
“We are just checking the calibrations on the pumps to ensure that a customer gets what he or she pays for and if it’s not correct we have to make the necessary adjustments before the opening day,” Fredericks said.
