St. Maarten – New firearms for the Ministry of Justice that was advised by the Committee for New Police Weapons (CNV), in which Commissioner of Police Carl John represents the police, was presented to Minister of Justice, Roland Duncan yesterday.

Police Chief Commissioner Peter De Witte was also present in a small ceremony that officially handed over the new police fire arms to the minister.

Police IBT instructor Hans Huijting is presently given lessons of the new weapons to the fire-arms instructors from the police and prison.

The new fire-arms which are from an Italian made company are a Berretta model PX4 Storm, a semi-automatic caliber 9mm handgun. This weapon also carries more ammunition than the existing fire-arm the police presently use.

The minister gave his blessings and is looking forward to seeing these new weapons within his ministry in a very short time.

After the introduction and ceremony IBT instructor Huijtings took the other instructors to the shooting range, where they could practice with the new guns.
