St. Maarten – The faction of the National Alliance wants a meeting of parliament to discuss the developments surrounding the 2011 budget. The opposition also wants Finance Minister Hiro Shigemoto to appear in parliament to answer questions.

Opposition leader William Marlin submitted a letter with the request this morning to the President of parliament, drs. Gracita Arrindell. The request is signed by all six members of the National Alliance.

The opposition did not ask for an urgent meeting. The parliament’s rules of order state in article 27 that meetings have to be held within fourteen days after a request has been submitted, and members of parliament must receive a convocation the latest four days before the meeting.

This means that the meeting will almost certain take place after April 15 – the deadline the Dutch parliament has set for St. Maarten to present a balanced budget that is approved by the board for financial supervision Cft.
