St. Maarten – Prime Minister Sarah Wescot Williams says that the nation is praying for the wellbeing and recovery of Prince Friso. The 43-year-old prince, who is the second son of Her Majesty Queen Beatrix, was temporarily buried in an avalanche in Austria around midday Friday. Doctors at Innsbruck hospital in Vienna say he is stable, but not out of danger.

“The people of St Maarten were shocked with hearing the news and are deeply concerned with respect to the prince’s wellbeing. Our prayers are with Her Majesty Queen Beatrix, Prince Friso’s wife Princess Mabel, and the other members of the royal family,” the prime minister said on Saturday.

Thankful

The royals are thankful for the outpouring of support since the prince’s accident on Friday. According to a statement from Royal Press Office the entire family is “deeply touched by the expressions of support, which are a great help at this time.”

The statement also states that an update on the prince’s condition will come at the end of the week.

“For now the situation remains as it was: stable, but not out of danger,” the release stated.

Prince Friso married Mabel Wisse Smit in 2004 and has two daughters, Emma and Joanna.
