St. Maarten— Jean-No Sanon (26) has been identified by police as the man who was fatally shot in Cole Bay on Monday night.

The shooting incident took place at approximately 8:15pm on the Waterfront road. News of the shooting reached the public yesterday but the name of the victim had not been released since police had not as yet informed his next of kin.

On Monday October 27th at approximately 08.15 p.m. several police patrols, detectives and paramedics were sent to Waterfront road in Cole Bay to investigate the shooting.  According to witnesses in the area they heard a loud noise on the street, which sounded like a gunshot and when they looked outside they saw a man lying face down on the ground in front of an apartment building on that same street.

Witnesses also noticed that the man in question was bleeding. On the scene the investigating officers encountered the man lying on the ground and showing no signs of life. He was later pronounced dead by Dr. Douglas. As at press time police were still unclear as to who had been responsible for the fatal shooting, but police spokesman Inspector Ricardo Henson said in a police report that “detectives are busy questioning potential witnesses.” He further explained that detectives are also gathering other information to piece together what transpired.

The body of twenty-six years old Jean-No Sanson has been confiscated for further investigations and is currently at the morgue. Police appeals to anyone who may have information regarding this fatal shooting to come forward and provide that information to police.
