St. Maarten – Murder suspect Robert Leroy Reid was found dead in the showers off the sickbay at the Point Blanche prison at 5:00 a.m. on Tuesday morning. The watch commander was alerted to the death by one of the inmates that was sharing the sick bay with Reid, who was in sick bay because of the burn wounds on his body.

According to a statement from the prison Reid tore a bed sheet, fastened it through the fancy blocks in the shower stall and hung himself. Prison authorities summoned Dr. Ruth Douglas who confirmed that Reid had in fact died. Police are now investigating the exact circumstances.

Reid was being detained in Pointe Blanche awaiting trial for the death of his 13-year-old daughter Tiffany. The girl’s burnt body was found on Pumpkin Road on September 7. Reid was arrested the same night based on the fact that he was burned about his body. He’s remained in custody ever since.
