MOVEMBER: Awareness for men’s health issues

POSTED: 11/22/12 1:40 PM

WILLEMSTAD – Front Shore N.V. is helping raise awareness and funds for men’s health and specifically for prostate cancer during the month November through the internationally known “Movember” movement.

Movember was started by a group of friends in 2003 in Australia; these men let their moustaches grow to create awareness for prostate cancer. A Mo’ is a moustache (in Australian slang) and Movember is their rebranding of the month November. In the past few years the movement has grown to over a million participants and over a hundred million dollars raised each year. Everybody who participates starts the month with a clean shaven face and then for the rest of the month, these selfless and generous men known as Mo Bros, groom, trim and wax their way into the annals of fine moustachery.  The so called Mo Bros will be supported by the Mo Sistas, which are the women in their lives.

Gordon Casey, the Managing Director of Front Shore, is participating in Movember for the first time and this year he has been reinforced by the moustaches of the other men of the Front Shore team, and the moral support of the women in the company. The aim is to raise funds on behalf of prostate cancer research but also to encourage men to talk about their health and become aware of the risks of prostate cancer, testicular cancer, diabetes and other issues. Donations can be addressed personally or by making use of the official Movember website and donate to team Front Shore Curacao.

Normally there will be a Movember party at the end of the month, where a number of prizes will be awarded for his/ her efforts for raising money or growing the finest moustache. On Curaçao there is no Movember organization established or any other organization who is dedicated to Movember. Front Shore is curious if there are other Movember participants on Curaçao who would like to join forces to create a bigger event out of it. Front Shore appeals to all Curacao Movember participants to mail movember@frontshore.com. We encourage all men to participate in Movember next year as well.
