St. Maarten –Prime Minister Sarah Wescot-Williams joined Deputy Prime Minister William Marlin, Minister of Education, Culture, Youth and Sports Silveria Jacobs together with representatives of both Gebe and the Philipsburg Jubilee Library in inaugurating solar panels at the library yesterday. The library, with support of Minister Marlin and the Ministry of Vromi, was able to install a number of solar panels supplied by local company Caribbean Solar

“Government is completing our energy policy and we will be having discussions with Gebe on the way forward. The energy policy will involve both solar energy and wind energy in addition to our waste to energy plant reducing dependency on fossil fuels,” Deputy Prime Minister William Marlin commented.

The Solar Panels will provide some ten kilowatts of electricity for the country’s library and marks one of the first steps in the ‘greening’ of St. Maarten’s energy consumption, with similar projects slated for schools and various public buildings in the near future. “It is good to see that we are moving forward with alternative energy projects here and I look forward to seeing the extending of similar projects in the future providing relief for both the environment and the people of St. Maarten,” the minister conducted.
