St. Maarten – Economic Affairs and Tourism Minister Romeo Pantophlet is this morning at an investment breakfast in New York City, organized by digital media company Hard Beat Communications and the Caribbean Tourism Organization CTO. He finds himself in the company of thirteen other ministers from countries in the Caribbean region – from the British Virgin Islands and Anguilla, to Jamaica, St. Kitts and Nevis and Haiti. Alain Richardson, President of the Collectivité d’Outre Mer de Saint Martin is also at the breakfast in the Astor Ballroom of the Marriott Marquis Hotel in Times Square.
Among the panelists at the Invest Caribbean Now 2012 are Lisa Lake, Chief Development Director of the Branson Center of Entrepreneurship Caribbean and Jean Arnell, Vice-President of the Chamber of Commerce in French St. Martin.
The event’s organizers will honor Sir Richard Branson with the 2012 leadership award for his commitment to the Caribbean via the entrepreneurship center that bears his name.
The forum comes as Chinese investment in the Caribbean continues to boom, the organizers write in a press release. “This is a free trade emerging market economy that is politically stable and boosts a highly literate work force and an established tourism market. The International Monetary Fund and World Bank forecast a 3.5 percent growth into 2013, higher than the economies of Eastern Europe and Central Asia, and similar to those of East Asia.”
