Minister orders business close Friday

St. Maarten – Minister of Tourism, Economic Affairs, Traffic and Telecommunications Franklin Meyers announced on Monday that all business places must close on November 11, which is St. Maarten’s Day. The day is an official holiday and in keeping with the law on shop closures all businesses must close.
“No dispensation will be granted for stores to be open on St. Maarten’s Day,” the minister’s notice stated.
Pharmacies that are selling medicine and medical products, bars and restaurants, hotels and guesthouses, stores in hotels, at the airport and harbor premises, funeral parlors, gas stations and bakeries selling pastries, milk and milk products are exempt from the rule.
