Minister Meyers tours lagoonPOSTED: 04/4/16 2:37 PM
St. Maarten News – Vromi-Minister Angel Meyers took a tour of the Simpson Bay Lagoon last week with Nature Foundation manager Tadzio Bervoets.
The minister got a first-hand look at the areas most affected by sewage. In the southern part of the lagoon in the vicinity of Pineapple Pete towards Tropicana Casino, there is insufficient water circulation.
Meyers said that his ministry is busy assessing whether the marinas based on the lagoon are complying with their lease agreements.
The tour also put the minister face to face with various shipwrecks.
“Working collaboratively with the Nature Foundation is fundamental, especially moving forward with the location and the construction of the sewage treatment plant for the Cole Bay district,” the minister said.
