St. Maarten – Last week Minister Franklin Meyers (Economic Affairs, Tourism, Telecommunications and Transport) met with officials from Aruba’s Air Safety First “The Registry of Aruba” to discuss aviation matters like air safety and aircraft registration.

“One of the primary areas is for Aruba’s Air Safety First to assist us with regaining Category 1 status. Additional discussions will take place on this matter in the coming months as this was only an introductory meeting.

“Another area that we are seriously looking at developing is an aircraft registry which will bring tremendous benefits to our country,” Minister Meyers said yesterday.

Aruba’s Air Safety First the Registry of Aruba aim is to link gaps between the regulator and the client by making regulatory compliance and safety oversight a reliable and cost effective service. Its aims are carried out in cooperation with the department of civil aviation in Aruba.

Aruba established its privately managed Category 1 registration program for owners, operators, banks and leasing companies of commercial and private aircraft across the globe in 1994.

The minister was accompanied by MP Patrick Illidge and Louis Halley, the head for the St. Maarten civil aviation, shipping and maritime department.
