Minister Marlin demolishes sewage aeration tank – Breath of fresh air for St. Peters residents

St. Maarten – Vromi-minister William Marlin confidently took the controls of a windward roads excavator yesterday afternoon for the symbolic demolition of the Ebenezer aeration tank next to the Scott property in St. Peters, located behind the Sol gas station. For neighborhood residents the demolition of this tank is more than symbolic. “They will breathe a sigh a relief, and they will also soon be able to breathe fresh air,” the minister said.

Gerco Rijkers of Windward Roads told the small gathering on the site that the company had obtain the assignment for the project in May 2011. In June of last year work on the main sewage line under the L. B. Scott Road started. “That work had to be completed before the end of the school holidays. Now the people in this vicinity will be happy that sewage will flow through proper sewage lines.”

“This basin has given us a lot of headaches over the years,” the head of New Projects ir. Kurt Ruan said. “It will be demolished now and there will be a direct connection to the main sewage line. All houses in the area will be connected too.”

Demolishing the facility, the minister added, “signals a change to the modern facility that has been built on Illidge Road.
