Minister has no knowledge about candidacy Ted RichardsonPOSTED: 03/4/16 1:17 PM
St. Maarten News – Tourism and Economic Affairs Minister Ingrid Arrindell does not get involved in decisions about the position of suspended airport director Regina Labega, she said during the second day of the budget debate yesterday evening. “That is up to the supervisory board,” the minister said.
The supervisory board suspended Labega after she failed to obtain a certificate of no objections after screening by the national security service VDSM. After her suspension, Labega was sent on paid leave until her contract expires in June.
Minister Arrindell said that she had “no knowledge” of the candidacy of former Minister of Tourism an Economic Affairs Ted Richardson for the top job at the airport.
The minister said that the building permit for the fixed base operations facility at the airport has been issued and that the project is in its preliminary stages. The construction will not go at the expense of parking space for private planes.
The operational costs of the airport were 114 million guilders in 2015 and they have been projected at 119 million for this year, the minister said.
