St. Maarten – Next week Sunday, the Middle Region and Defiance Community Council will host the Middle Region Festival, highlighted with a pre-Carnival musical jump up parade.

“This parade is going to be the talk of town. Just imagine the people of Middle Region and Defiance, the Mighty Dow and Ebony Orchestra and the Carnival Foundation coming together to put on this parade,” president of the council Angelica Chittick said.

The parade will start at 5 p.m. at the A. Th. Illidge Road and the Middle Region junction at the Tamarind Tree. It will then move straight up the Middle Region main road, turn left on the Hulda B. Richardson Road and back up Ellis Drive onto the Middle Region. The parade will end on the parking lot in front Calabash Lounge Bar & Restaurant where there will be several tents selling food and drinks.

“We want all the residents of Middle Region and Defiance and the general public at large to come out and enjoy themselves. Make sure you have on your dancing shoes because you will not be able to stand and look on without joining the parade,” Chittick added.

“This parade will be led by our Carnival Queen Pageant contestants as well as our Junior Calypso contestants. We want this to be the beginning of an annual pre-Carnival parade and we hope that all the community councils will organize such a parade in the future. Let’s join hands for a better and safer pre-Carnival parade in our community,” Chittick said.

President of the St. Maarten Carnival Development Foundation Mike Granger congratulated the council on this initiative and pointed out that it fits into the foundation’s goal of developing Carnival into a “community of interest”. “We hope that this creates a chain reaction to other community councils. The more people involved in Carnival, the better for the development of carnival in general,” he said.
