St. Maarten – The Rotary Club of St. Maarten-Mid Isle celebrated its 15th Anniversary at Le Charolais Restaurant in Maho on April 11. Millicent de Weever, Charles Davis and Maru Zeman were some of the club’s founding members attended the dinner.

Secretary General in the Ministry of Tourism, Economic Affairs, Transportation and Telecommunication Miguel de Weever was the guest speaker for the evening. He gave a presentation on historic and current economic developments. Assistant Governor Jim Ferris also presided over the induction of Thomas Roggendorf – a new member – who was sponsored by the club’s President Ramesh Manek.

The Mid Isle Club, which is the sponsor for the Interact Club of St. Dominic High School, started in 1997 with Willem Barendsen as the charter president of a club with 28 members. During its 15 year existence the club has organized several projects and fundraising activities. The money from these activities has been donated to organizations like the St. Maarten Medical Center, the St. Maarten AIDS Foundation and foundations that focus on the environment. The club’s members also regularly organize fellowship events, family days, beach days, Christmas dinners, valentine’s dinners and karaoke nights.
