Medical Center’s management to meet permanent committee

GREAT BAY – Members of Parliament’s Permanent Committee on Public Health, Social Development and Labor will meet the management of the St. Maarten Medical Center (SMMC) at an undisclosed date. The meeting is a follow-up to a tour of the hospital by MPs last Thursday on the invitation of the hospital.

During the tour and subsequent presentations MPs received an overview of the challenges that the medical center is facing as well as future potential activities including offering of more medical services to the community. MPs were also briefed on financial matters, structural and management issues and the request for governmental support to overcome some of the challenges that the medical institution is faced with. The delegation was also informed that optimal patient care and service remains as the primary goal and the focus of the medical center’s management.

Arrindell, Leroy De Weever, Patrick Illidge, Frans Richardson, Hyacinth Richardson, Dr. Ruth Douglass, Roy Marlin, Dr. Lloyd Richardson were the MPs that attended the meeting. Romain Laville, Louie Laveist and Johan Leonard were absent with notice.
