Marine sector’s importance to be stressed in new event

GREAT BAY, St. Maarten – The St. Maarten Marine Trades Association (SMMTA) is launching Spotlight-St. Maarten, a month long event focusing on education, recreation and discounts for boaters, tourists, and locals. The event will kick off with live entertainment and fireworks on St. Maarten’s Day – Friday November 11th (11/11/11) – and will run through Sunday December 18, 2011 when the final weekend will be celebrated with private VIP events and free concerts for the general public.

Spotlight St. Maarten is aimed at highlighting unique attributes that have made St. Maarten the marine capital of the Caribbean, provide a learning opportunity for boaters of all levels through structured training seminars hosted by internationally recognized experts, setting the stage for fun to be had by all, and to encourage local St. Maarten residents to get more involved in the marine community.
The calendar for the month long will include leisure events, sporting activities, and training seminars. The discounts cover marinas, chandleries, service centers, hotels, restaurants, bars, shops, and more.

Sporting activities during the month will include a sailing regatta, fishing tournament, tennis tournament, golf tournament, and paddle board races. Events will take place mostly on St. Maarten but the SMMTA will also be spotlighting French St. Martin and the surrounding islands of St. Barths, Anguilla and Saba.
