St. Maarten -The Citizens United for True Democracy foundation will stage a “March for St. Maarten” this Sunday, October 26. The March will commence at 2:00pm in the area of the WIFOL Building on Pondfill and the foundation invites the general population is invited.

Organizers say the event is to show the Dutch government and the world that the people of St. Maarten can stand together to protect its democratic rights against “unlawful Dutch intervention”. The foundation was born in the aftermath of the instruction given to Governor Eugene Holiday to impose expanded screening measures for candidate Ministers.

The march will start on Pondfill, turn at F.W. Vlaun and Sons, go up Front street, travel the span of Fronstreet to Emmaplein, turn onto Yuancho Yrasquin Blvd, around the Sundial round-about, down Pondfill, and end at the Government Administration Building.

Invitations have gone out to all political parties and their membership to attend the March in support of St. Maarten. The United People party (UP) has said it will support the march and urges its membership to wear red, white and blue or any combination thereof. The foundation said it’s not about political colors, but St. Maarten colors.

“This instruction was just the start to what might be more to come; More intrusion by the Dutch government and its colonial mindset. More from the Dutch government thinking that they can walk all over our rights and our people and do as they please in our country. We must stand together and show them that we are capable and willing to reject and resist as one people.”
