Man who ill-treated little girl remains in custody

St. Maarten – The investigation into the severe ill-treatment of a nine-year old girl with initials S.B. is in high gear. The ill-treatment took place on Thursday on Cherry Nut road in South Reward.

The girl was ill-treated by a 38-year old man identified by police as A.P. He is described as mentally challenged and residing in the neighborhood.

The girl suffered bruises to her body and a serious injury to her face. She was transported by ambulance to the Sint Maarten Medical Center where she was treated for her injuries and where she is admitted for observation and recovery. The Public Prosecutor’s Office and the police has given this case highest priority and are working diligently to find out what may have triggered the suspect to ill-treat the girl. According to the police report, the incident has cause a lot of unrest in the community. The suspect is detained and his detention has been extended by eight days.
