St. Maarten – A man was robbed of his gold chain and five dollars in the vicinity of the Philipsburg Jubilee Library on Sunday. According to an eyewitness account, the man was stopped by two youths and asked if he had known someone. He told the youths that he did not know the person that they were inquiring about.
As he turned away one of the youth pulled his gold chain while the other pulled out a gun and asked him where he was from. He in response told the youths that he was from St. Maarten just like them. They then hit him with the gun and asked him if he had money on him.
He apparently told them that he had seven dollars on him. They took the money and when they were about to go he told them that he had no money to go home. They threw two dollars on the ground and told him to pick it up and they left.
After the robbers had left the eyewitness asked the victim if he was not going to report the matter to the police. He said that he knows the robbers and that he would deal with them later.
