St. Maarten – A man was hacked with a machete in a domestic dispute yesterday, police reported. Around 1 am a police patrol from the Philipsburg district was sent to an address in Low Estate in Belvedere to investigate the fracas. On the scene, the investigating officers spoke to the female resident of the address who said that her son, S.A. (24), and his fiancée, with the initials A.J.B. (44), have been having problems with each other for some time. Last night, however, the situation got out of control and became extremely physical. Her son attacked the fiancée with a machete injuring her quite seriously on her left arm. The victim also suffered other minor injuries.

Both victims and attacker were on the scene when the investigating officers arrived. Detectives and Forensic Department were also dispatched to collect evidence. The paramedics treated the victim on the spot and then transported him to the Sint Maarten Medical Center for further treatment and where he currently remains hospitalized. The suspect was arrested at the address and remains in custody at the Philipsburg Police Department.
