St. Maarten – For ill-treating two girls and for damaging a car of one of them with a stone, the Court in First Instance sentenced Rollin Narcisse York to 90 days imprisonment with 79 days suspended, 60 hours of community service and supervision by the rehabilitation bureau for the duration of his probation.

The ill-treatment of the two girls – one of them the defendant’s girlfriend – took place on December 5, 2011, and on May 5 of last year he threw a stone at the car of one of the girls in Mullet Bay.

Prosecutor Tineke Kamps said that the defendant and his girlfriend had been in “an unhealthy relationship. She considered proven that York had attempted to strangle his girlfriend Alexandra and that he had thrown a stone at her car. She demanded a 3-month conditional prison sentence with 2 year of probation and 80 hours of community service.

Attorney Brenda Brooks pointed out that her client’s job at the airport hinges on the outcome of the court case and that York, who turns 25 tomorrow, and his girlfriend are on good terms these days.”They care for each other,” she said.

Judge Tamara Tijhuis considered the charges proven and agreed with the prosecutor’s assessment of the relationship. “You are both just as guilty.”
