Man brutally stabbed in Philipsburg

POSTED: 09/6/14 2:41 PM

St. Maarten- A man was severely stabbed yesterday afternoon around 4 pm in town near the main office of GEBE. He lost a lot of blood and had to be rushed away to the St Maarten Medical Center.

Upon arriving on the scene, a large amount of blood, which had already congealed, was spread along the entrance of H Beaujon Street on the Pondfill. Some of that blood also managed to seep into the caged water hole.

While the reason for the stabbing remains unclear, it was later learnt that the victim of the attack was walking towards his car when he was attacked, but it could not be substantiated if more than one person was involved.

One man who rushed to his assistance said that he had to remove his belt and apply a tourniquet to the lower section of his leg which was bleeding profusely from what appeared to be multiple stab wounds. Because of the severity of those wounds, a female staff member from GEBE also used her belt in an attempt to stem the blood flow.

The team of detectives and police who arrived on the scene shortly afterward quickly cordoned off the area and traffic had to be diverted.

This latest attack is expected to receive the full attention of the police, who will likely reveal more details later on.
